This crystal goblet was used by Lady Bowen, wife of the Governor Sir George Bowen, at the opening of the first public railway in Queensland on the 31 July 1865. The opening of the first section of the Southern & Western Railway between  Ipswich and Bigges Camp (Grandchester) heralded the beginnings of Queensland Rail, an institution that has grown to provide rail services to much of Queensland and beyond.
