Australian South Sea Islander Community Recognition Statement, 2000

The descendents of Pacific Islanders brought to Queensland to work in the sugar industry are a distinctive and important part of the Queensland population. After years of neglect and discrimination the Queensland Government officially recognised the Australian South Sea Islander Community in 2000.
