Murton family, Resolute commune, c1895

Sam Murton, a widower, and his sons (left to right) Steve, Bert, Bill, Victor and Arthur. They show off their own saddle horses Daisy and Nancy, a clear sign of individualism winning over communalism. The Murton family remained on part of the communal land after break-up, and Sam’s youngest grandson, Kevin Murton, continued there.
